Does anyone know what changes were made in the 39 when it was redesignated the 39-2?

I'm thinking about purchasing a used Smith & Wesson Model 39. Anyone have any experience or knowledge about this particular model? 0 -
The S&W mdl 39 is the single stack style clip version of the high capacity S&W mdl 59. Aside from grip thickness differences I believe that they are the same. They include an alloy frame and steel slide system. I like my mdl 59 so much that when I had the chance to buy a second, being sold off by a local P.D., I jumped at the chance. Neither has ever caused me any difficulties. Amongst my circle of friends and shooting buddies, several have also bought them when the chance has occured and none have ever told me of any problems. Over the years I have been aware of the line and the model 39 and have never heard anything bad about it, except for mag capacity. I would be ideal for someone with small hands. Now I should point out that none of us are in law enforcement and we all just have them for personal use. Still, they were at times past, used by police departments across the country and that has to be a pretty good recommendation. 0 -
Had a nickeled 39 back in the 70's, good plinker, heavy trigger, picky eater.

Illinois state police adopted the 39 in the ('70's?)Never heard of malfunctions of the weapon, only poor performance of the ammo of the era.And yes, the trigger can be nasty, but It does get better with use. I.E., SHOOT IT A LOT!
