Winchester Mod 12 ?

Did Winchester make Mod 12s with short barrels for police departments ? Someone told me he purchased 2 Mod 12s from a police Dept years ago . He was not sure of the exact BBL length . He said 18" or a little longer .

  Yes they did. They look very simalar to the Trench gun. Wxcept the barrel didn't have screw slots for the shroud and all. They came with a 20 1/2 in barrel chocked CYL. No sling swivles either. You usee to be able to pick them up fairly cheap. They came out with them in 1917 or 18 and continued until 1963. Police Dept's and Sherriff's all over the US had them in the 40s and 50s.   Since model 12 riot guns were considered a special order gun just about anything is possible. I have a early 50s riot model 12 with factory sling swivels. 20 3/4 to 21 inch barrels were standard [when measured down the barrel on an empty chamber] but other lengths could be ordered. Like Only Winchesters said you used to be able to pick them up fairly cheap [70s&80s] but dont count on finding any in good or better condition below 400 today...
