.38-55 Winchester cast bullet loads?

I have been checking the web, old and new loading manuals, but I can't find loading data on 260 to 270 grain bullets for a .38-55. I like to load with IMR 3031 powder.
Comments please.

    Reloading manuals seldom (if ever) list loading data for non-standard bullet weights. With that said, I have data for the 38-55 that suggest 33 grains of IMR 3031 with a 220 grain bullet. As bullet weight increases, powder charges should be decreased. With that in mind, I would start my loads at 27-28 grains.

    A lot also depends on what type of firearm you are loading for. For instance, if you are working up a load for an old Winchester Model 1894, it pays to be VERY cautious. However, if you have a Winchester Model 1885 high-wall Single-shot, then have at it... you are not going to cause any damage to it with any remotely reasonable load.

    taperloc....41st edition of Lyman Handbook suggests 30 grains 3031 for both 250 grain cast (#375248) and 255 grain jacketed. Take it from there.
