Parker Bros sidexside
I have a Parker Bro 10 gauge side by side damascus shotgun. It has ducks on the left side and turkeys on the right side and bottom of the reciever. The serial nuber is 589xx. The inside of the reciever is marked PAT'D JAN 18 AUG 16 1887 MAY 7-OCT8 1889 on top and 2 589xx E MAR 16 1875 on the bottom(inside also). The forearm has the serial number on inside and PAT'D MAR 26 1878 on the outside of the latch. The barrel is marked PAT'D APR 11 1878 and D 512 (the 1 and 2 are smaller and underlined) on the bottom. The stock may have been modified-the left side has been cupped out and there are 2 lead plates 1/4 inch thick in front of the butt plate which looks like plastic. The gun was left to me by an old friend years ago it was his grandfathers. Can anyone tell me the history,value (ins purposes only not for sale) or any other information about this antique. Also how is the best way to clean off 100 plus years of grime. thanks for any help loggy2mds.

Your gun was made about 1889 and appears to be a "D" grade.
Like with any collecting, original condition is everything. Yours
has been modified/altered. The value is that your friend left it to you. I will not even address case colors and bore conditions. Likely it has thirty inch barrels and is choked modified and full-in firing
position. Take it easy with cleaning. An oily rag on the metal and a damp rag with soap for the walnut. There is a Parker Collectors's Club
where you can receive the original configuration and shipping date-

loggy sounds like the kind of gun would make a good wall hanger in someones hunting den. I can only hope you have someone to leave it to, maybe like a "nephew". That would be really fitting, especially if your "nephew" was buying a new house with a whole room devoted to waterfowl hunting and other noble outdoor pursuits. Just a thought from someone who has been called the "greatest duck hunter of all time". 0 -
