Browning Misfires

I have a Browning Challenger II .22 cal target pistol that misfires about every 3 or 4 shots.I have disasembled the entire gun except for the main spring and cleaned every part spotless.The firing pin looks perfect as well as the spring.I have tried FEDERAL,REMINGTON,WINCHESTER,CCI STINGERS to see if it was ammo sensitive, but it does not matter at all,it still misfires.On the misfired shell casings it seems like the firing pin is not striking them hard enough,which has me thinking maybe I have a weak main spring.This is driving me CRAZY,somebody PLEASE HELP!!!

    Sounds like the firing spring is weak. Take it out and stretch it ever so litely.

    I question if the action is fully closing, maybe there is fouling in the extractor cut preventing the bolt from it's full travel.

    Had a problem similar to this on a old Model B Hi-Standard that I owned years ago. Some IDIOT had dry fired it so many times, that the area on the barrel just above the chamber ( where the firing pin impacted ) had been eroded away. As a consequence ignition of the primer in the rim wasn't reliable. It also caused a build-up of metal in the chamber mouth in this same area that interfered with proper chambering of the cartridge, until it was carefully removed.
