Why do Pellet Guns Wreck Scopes?

I have heard that you can't slap a regular riflescope onto a pellet-rifle; you need a scope specifically made for pellet-rifles. The ostensible reason I've heard is that the recoil characteristics of a pellet discharge are different than those of a rifle cartridge discharge, and---somehow---that's what wrecks a riflescope.

Izzat so? Or is this baloney?

Just curious.....

  A pellet rifle recoils forward, the opposite direction of a conventional rifle. If the reticle wires and lenses in a scope are not supported for recoil forces in both directions, it will not work on a pellet rifle. Most scopes are only engineered for conventional rifles, that is recoiling backwards.

  The "recoil" applies only to spring action pellet guns not the ones that use CO2 cartridges or pump up actions. The "recoil" is from the spring flying forward. The "recoil" force will cause the parts to loosen because the threads have been designed to tighten with normal recoil. (Think in terms of an impact wrench.)
