Quality AK47 thoughts?
I'm interested in your thoughts on quality AK47's. I'm leaning toward getting one with a milled receiver. I've heard that Arsenal makes a very high quality AK, called the SA M7. It's 100% domestic. Robinson Armament supposedly also imports a nice AK, but they all have stamped receivers. Does anyone have any experience with either of these company's products and does anyone know of other companies that offer quality AK's?

The milled ones are nice but heavier. I got a SAR-1 and have had no complaints about it. I've shot a bunch of Norincos too and they're good as well. AK's are sort of like pickups, they're more utility and less performance. You aren't going to drive tacks with an AK, but if you need something to work anywhere between Memphis and hell they do the trick. They are designed to provide moderate accuracy and a high rate of fire.
PS: Of the milled ones, the Arsenal's are nice.[:D]

The SAR1 7.62X39 and the SAR3 .223 are very good rifles. I do not have any info on the SAR2. My 2 cents [8D]

I've got an SLR95 MB by Arsenal and they are nice ... most of the ones with the factory muzzel breaks have a US made trigger group and gas piston ... then you can get a US made pistol grip and that gives you enough US made parts to legally use the original Bulgarian stock. Mine is pictured here with an Ultimak and a BSA red dot ... it works great for fast target aquisition ... although this is the most accurate AK I have, its no target rifle.

I've got a SLR-95 also shows as Arsenal (VaBch,Va) w/ muzzle brake. How can I tell if piston and trigger group are US. Sure would love to get rid of the thumbhole stock without changing anything more than needed.

From what I understand, only the SLR95MB (Muzzel Break) had the US parts added ... and of them only the ones that have "DLG VA BCH VA" and re-marked "INTRAC KNOX, TN" these have Gordon Technologies made trigger groups (trigger/hammer/disconnector) and gas pistons the hammer is marked G-TEC ... its not the easiest to see, I had to pull mine out before I could see it well enough to know for sure ... here's a pic;
The G-TEC parts are about the middle of the road as far as both quality and price go ... the trigger group runs about $40 and the gas piston $20 and the US pistol grip comes with the stock for $40 (these prices are from Global Trades) ... so even if you have to buy everything, you can do the conversion for around $100 ... that way you have met the US parts requirement and can use any mag without swithching the followers and floorplates ...
