Best way to mount a scope on a 454 Raging Bull
I am interested in anyone who has securely mounted a scope on a Raging Bull. I have the Taurus scope rail, but haven't found the right rings yet. Any advice is appreciated.

I'd go with the Leupold or Burris rings, unless you can find some nice 440 stainless ones, stay away from the Weaver or tasco-type rings with the thin metal top strap.
Which maker did you get the mount from? Is it Weaver-style, or picatinny-style (more mounting latitude)?
I put a Simmons 4X fixed on one for a pal in June, and he's already blown the reticle loose twice and we (I) replaced the cheezy rings he'd bought in July-scratched he?? out of that scope! Also, watch for the front lens turning loose after about 250 rounds, and he also whines about powder residue getting on the lens from the porting.
I tell him he's lucky to know someone with a screwdriver.

I don't know what brand of scope that you have, but I put a not so expensive scope on my Ruger .454 and it lasted 12 rounds before it was reduced to junk. I ended up puting a 2x Leupold on it and have had no problems.

If possible, put 3 or 4 rings on it, on a lot of high power pistols the rings will be the weak point in the scope arrangement.
The Raging Bull has a LOT of recoil, here's a pic of a cowboy wannabe going for a Bull ride[;)]

Thanks everyone for the responses. To answer some questions; the scope is a middle of the road Bushnell that hasn't given me any problem....yet?? The mount is from Taurus, the rings are generic Weaver style. The first rings that lasted about 10 rounds were Millett Angle Lock. I've LocTited everything and so far nothing looks like it has moved, though it doesn't group well off of sandbags. I am suspicious of the scope, but haven't proved it to be the problem yet. I like the look of the Burris Zee rings, any thoughts?

Millet Angle Loc rings should come with a warning disclaimer about use on hard recoilers. One of the worse rings one can use. Design, nor construction is correct. Personally do not like them.
Like a building, the foundation is the #1.
Taurus mount is ok.
1.Check 'center to center' hole alignment of barrel & base.
2.Base screws/holes must be properly cleaned before Loc Tite applied.
3.Use fixed...Warne Maxima Permanent, Leupold PRW (made by Warne), Burris Signature Zee. MGW's and other similar can be used, but they're much heavier, much more expensive....overkill.
4.Use properly fitting tools to tighten the screws.
Super magnums like the 454, 445 Super Mag, have alot more "Free Recoil" the long guns, and need better mounting systems.
Think of a football player with a poorly fitting helmet, or chin straps not tight enough. What happens when they hit, or get hit.
That's a scopes reaction.

Thanks everyone for the great info.
I think I'm almost there. I have some Burris Zee's coming, I degrease the screws and holes prior to using the removable LocTite, and have a good set of Brownell's screwdrivers for tightening. Probably the next step will be to move up to a Leupold or Burris. I have the 2X Leupold on a 44 Super Blackhawk and haven't had any problems with that. I would like a little more magnification for the 454, maybe 4X or 2-6X. Any recommendations?
