7mm ultra mag ammo
I know remington makes 7mm ultra mag ammo. Was wondering if anyone knows if any others produces 7mm ultra mag ammo? Or is remington the only one. Thanks.

Last year Remington was the only one making it. Unless someone else joined in I think they are the only one.
I had problems with handloads on the 7mm ultra loads. I had 2 different places make handloads (for two different rifles)and both had a problem with it backburning. The casing is so long that the powder would burn both ways and cause the casing to collapse at the neck. SO you are not able to make much of an improvement over factory loads. The factory ammo comes about as hot as you can get without problems.

I don't know of any across the counter 7mm RUM ammunition but there are a couple of custom reloaders that will handle loading for you if you prefer.

The loads were done by Quality Cartridge and Lost River Ballistics. Quality Cartridge did a box of 20 for me with 5 different bullets. This was used on a Rem BDL Left Hand 7mm ultra (not my rifle). One bullet shot extremely hot and collasped the neck in three different spots. When I talked to my local gunsmith he said it was burning bothways that was causing the problem.
The second load was when I sent my REM LSS 7mm Ultra to Lost River for a custom load in a 140 gr. They called me later and said they could not get a 140 gr load due to the same thing happening. They explained it the same way. So they loaded it in a 160 gr to avoid the problem but I got rid of the rifle instead.
From the information I gathered, the factory loads are close to max and do not allow for much improvement (similar to Weatherby ammo). The 7mm ultra uses quite a bit more powder then the 7mm STW while gaining very little performance. That is about all the info I got. The only other thing is they tend to be very fast and accurate rifles. I went back to a Sako Warbird instead (AWESOME). Good luck and I am sure you will enjoy the gun.
