I'm trying to find out what year my colt sp1 was made. Is there a list of serial numbers to i d them out there somewhere?

whats the deal with people pi**ing all over colts i have one. never had a problem with it. is it just because they are more $$$ than all the others and people buy whatever is cheaper because they cant afford a colt i have yet to see anyone complain about reliabilty\ functioning all of them are almost exactly alike with the exception of the barrels there has to be a serious answer to this just wanted to know thanks 0 -

Are you 100% sure that the rifle is ACTUALLY MARKED AR-15? Does the word AR-15 appear on the magazine well?

But, Duch deserves a serious answer. Duch, look at the receipt you got when you bought it from the guy: the dollar amount shown on the receipt is what it is worth. At least, that is what it was worth on the day that you bought it; today, it might be worth more, or less.
Rare? Hardly. Colt made literally hundreds of variations of their AR & Sporter; there may have been a few hundred or a few thousand made of many of them, but that doesn't make them valuable. Only a few variations, such as the electroless nickle finish, might be considered desireable, but few are really "rare".

Okay, Ill try to do better this time. Rifle is a Colt sporter competition HBAR cal .223 ser CH0003XX. It has a flat top reciever and came with both scope rail(A.R.M.S-5 Colt stamped on side) and a adjustable carry handle rear sight. The barrel is stamped C MP 5.56 NATO 1/9 HBAR on the top forward of the sight. It has a leopold VARI-X III 3.5X10 TACTICAL scope with mil-dot reticle(Im resonably sure this didn't come with the gun) mounted on it. I paid $600 dollars for the gun about seven years ago. It also came with a Colt conversion to shoot .22 and about 10 30 round and 10 20 round mags. That is about all the info I have on gun. What I would like to know is aproximatly when it was made and if it is particularly rare or collectable, It is a very accurate for an auto "penny sized five shot groups at a hundred yard range" and I really enjoy shooting it. Thanks for any info or constructive critisism about my question anyone can give me. 0 -

Scope = $700 (maximum)
Conversion kit = $300 (This is a guess but Mark C. knows this much better than I.)
BTW, you got a great deal with all those extras for $600. I would keep it and not sell it. Enjoy it!
Oops, I forgot about the preban mags = $600.

The price you get for the AR will simply depend on the buyers avaiable at the time you sell ... a lot of people are getting skittish about pre-ban domestic firearms due to the looming sunset of the AW ban in less than a year.
I had a Colt sporter competition HBAR cal .223 ser CH00089. It was a flat top reciever and came with scope rail(A.R.M.S-5 Colt stamped on side), but didn't come with a carry handle, scope or any of the other goodies you have with yours - bought new it was $850. Because of the serial number I got $2200 for mine to a collector, 89 being the year it was made and also the first year of the "sear block" and I believe the first year to be bayonet "lug less"
In my humble opinion, if the ban isn't renewed most all AR-15 type weapons will suffer a dramatic drop in value ... however Colt, due to collector intrests, samples that are still NIB or "mint" will see little to no change of value ... I would guess you could get $1500 for the gun it at any given time, but the closer to 9-13-04 the more skittish buyers will be.
