H & R 32 revolver
I have a 32 cal. rev. that has MODEL 733 32 S.&W.L. MADE IN USA on the left side of the barrel and H & R INC. MASS. USA on the left side under the shell chamber. It has a black handle and the serial # under the handle. I have had it since about 1984 and it was my Dad's before me, I have no idea how old it is or what it's worth, can you tell me? I also have a sm. leather holster with it.

the h&r model 732 was manufactured between 1957 and 1986 the model 733 was not introduced until little later. it was produced from 1961 to 1986. the model 732 and 733 were given the name 'guardsman' which was used in all catalogs and advertizing until about 1970 when the name was dropped and only the model number used.
the serial number should have a one or two letter code prefix. if you can supply this letter code i can tell you what year it was manufactured.

I recently became the proud owner of my grandfathers old H & R 733 revolver and have been trying to locate the manufacturing date. It's serial number starts with AD. Would you be able to tell by that? 0 -
H&R used the "AD" letter codes in 1967.

Bill Goforth is WRITING the book on H&Rs - a lot of the misinformation and errors concerning H&R firearms will be corrected - Check out the Current Editions of the Blue Book by Fjestad (29th & 30th) for a sample of that information.

I have one of these revolvers too. I am not sure exactly which model number I have, but I know it fires 32 shorts. I am also trying to find out if I can fire 32 longs through it. They fit into the shell chamber, but I don't know if the gun can handle the shot. Can anyone tell me? 0 -
I have not been able to find any SAAMI data on .32 S&W, the original .32 although the .32 S&W Long is listed at 15,000 PSI. Since this is less than a .22LR (22,000 PSI (?)) I believe I would cautiously try it.
I have never seen a modern revolver chambered for .32 S&W that would not take the .32 S&W Long.
As an historical note, Teddy Roosevelt directed the NYPD to standardize their handguns to .32 S&W Long because of the reputation it had for superb accuracy.
