NFA Transfer Etiquette Question

    You have a rare perception of the problems that both buyer & seller have.

    There are no hard-and-fast rules; while some may call it a negotiated agreement, in this sellers market, the seller will usually be the one who determines how much money is paid up front. I think that the majority of sellers request full payment up front; after all, it could take 6 month, & still be denied.

    If you are worried about the money, then you need a different hobby. NFA weapons are toys -VERY expensive toys - but still, they are just toys. While it's true that they have appreciated a great deal in the last 15 years, they should not be considered an investment; a legislative ban (not that far-fetched) could wipe out your investment in a heart beat. If you haven't satisfied all of your financial obligations, spending money on a machine gun is a poor choice.

    Anything other than "full" payment will depend upon your relationship
    with your Class III dealer.
    My first purchase (Uzi SMG and Suppressor) required full payment.
    After only "42 days", I was the "proud" owner.
    Subsequently, since my dealer knows me better and numerous purchases;
    a down payment will suffice.
    Class III owners in a particular area tend to be a fairly "close knit"
    group and honesty and integrity is expected!
