have a old 1894 half round half octagon 25-1/4 inch barrel nickel plated receiver metal butt plate 30wcf ser 258172 sent for a letter form cody but didn't say much about it anyone know more about it thanks cdv

  Winchester 1894 - My Grand fathers Winchester 1894 serial #1996XX was sent in to the Winchester company and converted into a 30-30 from a 38-55 several years ago. What would it take to convert it back?

  Hello jojor3,
  
  Is it a round barreled Rifle (26" or 24" barrel length), or is it a Carbine (20" barrel length)?
  
  If it is a Carbine, does it have a saddle ring on the left side of the frame? What about special order options?
  
  Many different things can affect the final value on the older Model 1894s, so you will need to be a bit more descriptive.
  
  As a final comment, if you go to the auction section of GB, you will find LOTS of Model 1894/94s being sold... compare yours to what is being offered, and it should give you a reasonable idea of what it "might" be worth.
