Meridan??

A good friend of mine has a side-by-side 12ga. Stamped on the barrel are the words "Meridan Special". The only other information on the gun is PAT July 9 1907. Does anyone know who the manufacturer is? Value? Thanks -

  The correct spelling is Meriden, they were the manufacturer. Besides shotguns, they made .22 cal.rifles and I believe handguns. Value of the gun would depend on condition, but most would fall into a range below $250. Before firing, someone qualified should inspect the piece. Best to err on the side of reason and not shoot it without first doing so.

  Meriden Fire Arms Company of Meriden Conn. was a subsidiary of Sears, Roebuck and Co. Although the shotguns they produced were of good quality, Meriden was only in business for a relatively short period of time ( 1905 - 1918 ). Since some of their early shotguns were offered with optional Belgian Damascus barrels, it would be prudent to have a QUALIFIED gunsmith inspect and testfire it prior to use.

  What is a Belgian Damascus barrel? Why is this bad? Sorry for the really basic questions here . .
