Lubrication on an 11-48?

I bought an 11-48 in 20 ga this week. tried shooting it with mixed results. It ran the cheap3/4 oz rem game loads OK, but not any others I tried, AA's, win dove and quail, fed slugs. Etc. It is cycling half way and re chambering the empty while cocking the hammer. The mag tube is dry, Should it be oiled? A friend suggested that while it is bad for an 1100, it is good for an a-5 type action. what oil and how much should I use.

  i have never had that trouble on my 11-48 12 ga it shoots everything
  i do use some rem oil that comes in a sray can on it though.

  check the assy of the bbl onto the mag tube. the order in which you put the rings and stock on will effect the recoil. let us know.

  Rich,--in the case of a Rem '48, the magazine tube outside needs to have a very light oil film on it. There is no particular requirement for the friction ring as long as it is in the forward position. I still own a 12 ga. '48 and have owned a 20 ga. When I say a very light oil film, it's just that. As an illustration, one day in a duck blind my 12 Ga. was not cycling due to a dry tube. I took the forend off and wiped the tube with outboard motor fuel since it had oil in it, and the problem was cured. A wipe with an oily rag might just do the trick for you.

  Upon tearing down the gun I found that the old oil had congealed into some form of glue and was keeping the spring from sliding as it should. A little bit of marvel oil on the tube had her running like a champ. 49 out of 50 rounds. the one problem was from a bad crimp in a reload. I can live with that. Thanks again

  Tell ya' guys, keep those old '48s clean and give them a very little oil now and then and I think they'll shoot forever.
  My old 12 gauge gun had 15 or so thousand rounds run thru it in a three year period, (1952-1955) and I don't know how many including a multitude of 2-3/4 inch magnums for the next 15 years. It's ready to go still.
