40 S&W........165gr or 180gr

Does anybody know what is more accurate in a Springfield 40 XD? 165gr or 180gr bullet? Thanks

  Try them both. My guess is that the 180 would probably be more accurate but your results may not be typical.

  Just curious to check figures, I pulled up the two in a standard FMJ plinking round.
  165g/180g @ muzzle; 25yds; 50yds; 75yds; 100yds
  
  Muzzle velocity
  980/990fps; 950/960; 920/940; 900/910; 880/890
  
  Energy Foot Pounds
  350/390; 330/370; 310/350; 295/330; 280/315
  
  Mid Range Trajectory
  +0.3"; +1.2"; +2.8/2.7; 5.1/5.0"
  
  Conclusion? Same charactistics w/o crosswind. W/crosswind? Better with 180g.
  More energy at impact w/ 180g

  You should probably try a few different brands in both these weights to see what your XD40 likes. Federal, Winchester, etc. What shoots best in your XD may not be the same in someone elses' XD. Makes it fun to find out, or at the least another excuse to go to the range[:D][:D]

  My 10mm's (same projectile, more case capacity as a .40 S&W) likes 180 grain bullets real well.

  The .40 S&W isnt known for great accuracy.but Ive found all of mine shoot the 155gr Bullet better than anything else.The 155 gr is used in most LEO .40's as well.As of now according to te FBI the .40S&W loaded with a 155gr bullet is the number 1 one shot stop Pistol caliber.The 135gr bullet also shoots well from the .40 caliber Handgun delivering more muzzle energy than the 155gr bullet.We are begining to see the 135gr grow more and more popular with LEA's.If accuracy is what your looking for I would try several brands of ammo,one thing is for sure their are no two guns exactly the same.

  I shot 165gr Federals out of my Sig and they seem to have good accuracy.But like others have told you try different brands and weights to see what your gun shoots best.
