grep safety will not work i have replaced the grip safety-sear- hammer- sear spring-triger- all this did no good any help???--thanks

I had the longslide. Used it for huntin hogs. It never gave me a lick of trouble. It is a little rough around the edges. It is a functional weapon, not a pretty one. If it is at a steal price go for it.
If not buy a name brand.0 -
I owned two Back Up's and the top half of a Hardballer Longslide over the years. Neither one of the Back Up's was reliable. Did a lot of work on them but it was a lost cause. The material they were made out of seemed to be a dead soft stainless that defied fixing.
The Longslide was another story, bought it from a guy at a gunshow, because it wasn't functional (course that slipped his mind, and he FORGOT to tell me that prior to the sale).
After I couldn't get it to work at the range, took it home and stripped it down to work on it. The mortice for the extractor hadn't been machined correctly in the slide. It couldn't have worked when it left the factory.
I fixed it by going in with needle files to clean up the mortice.
To make a long story short, don't buy any AMT products unless you can test fire them for reliability. I would put at least couple hundred rounds through it, if the person trying to sell you the pistol won't agree to that, walk away from the deal.0 -
as rufe pointed out, sometimes they do require work. I have owned two AMT 1911 clones (not at the same time), they worked great....as well as any other stock 1911 clone but before they worked great they did require a bit of work right out of the box. The first one I owned there were a ton of burrs on the internal parts that caused a lot of drag on the hammer and slide and caused misfeeds, it was easily corrected by stripping it down and getting a deburring tool and smoothing out all of the edges and some polishing. The second one I owned I had to return to the factory because the hole for the extractor when it was drilled was drilled way off center and it wouldn't even grip the rim of the round. How it passed factory inspection (hahahaha there's a funny joke, factory inspection, LOL!) I'll never know. But once they replaced the slide...worked just fine.

Earlier M1911-pattern guns tend to be poorly heat-treated, and are soft so deformation can take place at places like the slide stop notch in the slide. Most can be fixed with some tinkering. I have an early Longslide where the barrel stop area in the frame was machined crooked, so it beat the barrel link lug on one side. The link was so soft that it stretched so the holes were egg-shaped. I fixed all the problems (except the soft slide, where I peened the displaced metal back in the slide stop area and that work-hardening seems to have mostly eliminated that peening problem) and it is one of my favorite guns. I wish one of the quality makers would make a longslide M1911-patttern pistol with a 7-inch barrel. 0 -

I've had four or five AMT's and have liked them all, experiencing no problems.

I bought an HB because I liked the looks. After several hundred round the rear sight fell off. The roll pin worked its way through the rib on the top of the slide, just broke the hole out the top. I took it to the factory, at the time in Irwindale Ca. They put a new slide on as I waited. Took it home and after several hundred more rounds the rear sight did the same thing. Took it back again, new slide again installed, no charge. Same thing, rear sight flies off, took it back again and had them put a Government style fixed sight slide on the gun. Friend if mine knows all of this and says he would like to buy the gun. I sell it to him at a modestloss. One day he is out shooting and he has a case rupture( double charge reload? unknown!) Blows the follower and spring out the bottom of the floor plate. He takes it home and cleans it up and shoots it again with a new mag. Its still works perfectly. I would not buy another AMT. If the price is right it might be a good buy for someone else. Buy the way I have a 22 Back-up that I like alot, although it is not all that reliable. John

I have to agree with Doug on this, AMT's have always treated me just fine, But don't expect it to shoot like a kimber when you can buy two or three AMT's for the price of a kimber.
