S&W Ported Revolvers & Dot Scopes

How effective is the porting on the Smith & Wesson 686 & 629 revolvers?. It is supposed to decrease muzzle jump, but if I happen to use it for hunting without ear protection, is it deafening or blinding? Are there any recoil reduction benefits as well, or just a decrease in muzzle jump?
I have a 686 now (non ported), and was considering getting another and setting one (or a 629 44mag) up for whitetail hunting with a dot scope. Then I can hunt or target shoot with a dot scope or open sights. Any recommendadtions on a dot scope? I have Leupold scopes and am partial to Leupold, but have not rec'd opinions on their dot scopes.
Incidently, I bought the S&W 686 based on advice I rec'd here and am very happy with it.

I have a Performance Center 629 with the removeable muzzel break...can't say I've noticed any advantage or reduced recoil, but it does look nice. 0 -
Over 20 years ago, I had a S&W Model 27, .357 mag, with 5 inch barrel Mag-Na-Ported. When I got it back I couldn't feel much difference, until I borrowed one from a friend just like it, that had not been ported.
Shooting one, then the other, I could tell a difference. Mine seemed to 'kick' a good bit less than his. Percentage wise, I don't know..but think it was worth the expense.
As far as blinding in low light shooting, the tiny ports don't shift away enough to make it worse than it already was.
I have a S&W 629 that I will have ported someday. I think it's worth the money, and maybe even enhance the value somewhat.

I have a magnaported 629 Trail Boss. On a shortbarrel 44 mag gun the porting makes sense. Downside is the gas blackens the red on the sight-need to wipe it off frequently.I really don't see the need for porting on a 357
