Laws governing gun sales at gun shows-Missouri

Last week I asked about possible prices for a pistol I want to sell (Ruger P-94, .40 S&W, stainless steel, Hogue grips, 5 magazines, box, manuals, less than 1000 rounds etc.). I was at a gunshow in Missouri where I had bought a pistol a couple of years ago. A man asked me if I would sell it right there. Is it legal to sell a handgun, one person to another, or do we have to have them go through the paper work (apply at the Sheriff's office in Missouri) and all the rest? I was thinking about taking it and a brand new Cabela's Mossy Oak Chamois jacket to the next show at Blue Ride Mall...

  First, you have to worry about Federal law. That says that you (a nonlicensee) may only sell a firearm to a resident of your state, or to an FFL in any state.
  
  To determine MO law, check State Laws and Published Ordinances - Firearms (ATF P5300.5), available at any gun dealer or online at the BATFE website.

  Thanks, I always run into people who want to buy this or that and kind of thought it wasn't Kosher.

  Here in missouri the buyer has to go to thier county sherrifs office and apply for a handgun permit. Its a background check and a nominal fee of 10 dollars. same day! [8D]

  Hey, Jar it's not same day in all counties here in MO. I moved 15 miles 6yrs. ago but it's another county and they have a wait which is within the law. Transfering a handgun does require the purchaser to have a permit. In fact it's not legal to possess a handgun registered to another person here, even your spouse unless they're present.
