Iver Johnson Blackfield

I have gotten what i believe to be an Iver Johnson 12ga private label. It has HSB&C Chicago stamped on it ( i think it is a Iver Johnson Blackfield made for Hibbard, Spencer, Bartlett & Co., Chicago, IL) on the side and the numbers 951 and D.E. stamped under the barrel. the stock is carved with a dog on one side and a bird on the other. Any info you can give me would be Great. Thanks in advance,

  My book notes that the doubles made for H S B, were manufactured by Crescent ( Early Production), then Stevens after the First World War, till production ceased just prior to W W II.

  my references olso list the blackfield name as manufactured by iver johnsonson arms& cycle co. for hibbard spencer & bartlett but i think this is in error.
  
  iver johnson's arms & cycle works purchased the j.p. lovell co. of boston, ma around 1900. it became the iver johnson sporting good co. iver johnson sporting goods co. offered a full line of products, firearms and non-firearms (ie; canoes and tennis rackets being only two of them).
  
  they sold brand name shotguns as well as iver johnson manufactured shotguns. some of these were cresent products and some were belgium imports. it is my belief that the blackfield name was only sold by iver johnson not manufactured by them.
  
  the iver johnson sporting goods co. also offered a full line of the firearms manufactured by all the major manufacturers (ie;colt, s&w, winchester, remington).

  a firearms marked iver johnson sporting co. boston ma usually mean it was fade for them by some one else.

  So does anyone have any idea what the 951 D.E. means?

  are the number 951 d.e. repeated any where else, like the barrel channel of the fore-end, the lower tand behind the trigger guard or on the butt stock under the butt plate. if it is then its probably the serial number. if not probably some kind of manufacturer's code.
  
  serial numbers on this type of shotguns are not much help in identifing manufacturer or date of manufacture
