Sako Finnbear weak ejection
Has anyone improved the ejector on a Sako 300 win. The extractor holds tight but the ejector barely touches the empty.

The Finnbear's ejector is powered by a peculiar spring shaped like a bent bobbypin, but actual ejection is accomplished by the base of the fired cartridge striking the nose of the ejector at the rear of the bolt's stroke. If yours is weak the ejector may not be being pushed firmly enough into the bolt channel by the spring, as if the ejector was too short; or it may actually be short with a little worn off or broken off from the tip that strikes the cartridge. Sometimes gun parts break in a way that is difficult to spot without having an unbroken part for comparison. Your problem is most likely one of the two--weak spring (my best guess) or broken ejector tip. Replacement parts may be difficult to find. With a little experimentation you might be able to replace the odd factory spring with a coil spring held captive between the inside of the ejector housing and the ejector itself. A similar solution is used for P14 Enfields that were made with an ejector that has a leaf spring as part of the ejector. These flex with every cycle of the bolt and frequently break, leaving the ejector without power. One solution is to cut two small, parallel slots into the bottom surface of the ejector and press in one end of a small coil spring which is then compressed inside the ejector "box". This works so well that some gunsmiths routinely remove the issue ejector and install a modified version. 0
