scoping a vaquero

I have a Ruger Vaquero in .45 LC with a 7 1/2 barrel. I would like to make it a hunter. Can I fix a scope to it without ruining the cowboy shooting look of it? I know I should have the Blackhawk, but I like the look. Would it be as simple as tapping the backstrap for rings?

  Most of the guns Ruger makes, that are suitable for use with a telescopic scope, come pre-fitted with machined-in "slots" (there's probably a better word for it but I can't think of it right now) that will accept Ruger's own style of rings.
  
  If the Vaquero doesn't have this feature, you might look to check out what B-Square makes; they have adapters for almost anything that shoots that will allow 'scope ring mounting.
  
  Otherwise check with a reputable gunsmith before drilling the backstrap; that's not a part of your frame you want to weaken in any way.
  
  Oh, if you do succeed, stick with 4 power or less; anything higher I think you'll find you won't be able to maintain a steady hold. You'll need a pistol scope too; don't make the mistake of fitting a rifle scope & taking a shot - you'll hurt yourself, believe me.
