Rem. 740 vs. 7400?
Read another post about the 760 vs. 7600, and I was wondering the same thing except about the 740 and 7400. Doesn't Remington make a 742 as well?

First came the 740, then the 742, then the Model Four, now the 7400. 0 -
A guy at a gunshop told me that if you shoot a 740 more than two times in a row it could rip the rim off of the case. Is that true?

I used a 742 in .30/06 for several years w/o any problems at all. Using both factory and handloads it always worked. Last spring, a guy brought in a 7400 in .270 that jerked the rims off every other round. I did some checking and found that to be a common problem with the 7400. Other than that , I noticed that the resale on 7400's was down quite a bit.

I own a 7400 in .243 just like fort knox's. I agree 100% with everything he said. I will add though, the gun is very accurate even w/ soft points, which become somewhat damaged when they come in contact w/ the feed ramp. I'd like to know if polishing the ramp would help at all, so if anyone knows, your feedback would be appreciated. Also, my 7400 has a satin finish.
