Are you sure you want a bright barrel? I bought a gun that had a polished stainless barrel on it and it made the scope have a glare. I finally sold it but I thought about having it finished in matte black over the stainless.
To answer your question, you'd need several types of abrasive pads. Start with course and work your way down. It can be done by hand, or by using a dremel or similar tool if you don't have a lathe. It takes time and once you start you have to finish.
    Good luck.

Oh, I don't know about the bullets...

I think you scored - don't the moly bullets cost more? If so, I'd keep 'em for later use and buy some uncoated ones with which to break in your bore.

Moly bulltes are deffinately more expensive than regular jacketed bullets. I'd keep them and place a reorder for some Nosler J-4's. The J-4's are a match grade HPBT and come in 155 and 168 grain in 30 caliber if I remember correctly. They are not moly coated.

If you ain't got a sense of humor you got no business bein here!

Why buy match-grade bullets if you are just using them for break-in purposes? Just wonderin'. I can see using them later for accuracy, load developement, etc. Emery

i just dug around the reloading bench and found half a box of 180 that should break the barrel in nicely. i really don't have any use for moly coated bullets i have tried them before and really found little difference other than the price. thanks for the replies

If you are trying to fine polish the barrel cut strips of brown paper bag and then stirrup polish the barrel until it gets the desired shine.
