question for mark christtian
i have a question on gew-43 rifles i aqired one of these rifles that has been in the family as long as ww2 has been over and this one has been sportarized and the back military sight is missing and was wondering if you knew if it has to be rebarrled to get the correct military look ?? and do you know how correct this feature and any information is welcome

I am afraid that unless you are dealing with an M1 Garand or another US .30 cal service rifle my experience with restorations is limited. We do have two other members who seem to know quite a lot about these rifles and could probably provide you with some good info. Whether or not they could agree with each other remains to be seen!

I'll see if I can dig up a assembly diagram for one, I seem to remember the rear sight ass'y being a seperate unit that was put on hot or pressed on to achieve a very tight fit. I could be wrong, don't deal with much obscure German stuff, but that's what I'm remembering. Did you check Numrich and see if they have parts?

yea i did check the numrich but they didn have the parts but did have a breakdown but really coulden tell if it was a aseperate unit

KINGJOEY IS RIGHT. THEY ARE SLIPPED ON HOT WITH SOLDER. IF I REMEMBER RIGHT THE SIGHT LEAF SPRING SCREW GOES ALL THE WAY THROUGH AND THREADS INTO THE BARREL. 0
