30-40 krag
Hello Gentlemen,
I have a question about the 30-40 Krag. I have had the bug for a while to collect alot of our older generations guns. I have amassed so far a trapdoor 45-70, 1903, m1 garand, tommy gun, as well as some of the other newer military rifles. I have come across a guy selling a 30-40 Krag for $400. Now I have not seen it yet in person. I have seen a one pic online. But I was looking for your expert opinion on the rifle. I do know that the furniture looks to be original. I have talked to the owner and he states that it is original as well but missing the "foregrip" wood. He has also stated it to be a carbine and has sporterized front and back sights. I plan on looking at it this sunday but just figured I would ask ya'lls opinion as well.

need some info on the 1898 30-40 Krags, how good are they, reliable, accurate?? 0 -

Is it all original, or sporterized? Model 1892, 1896, or 1898? If it is 100% original, is it a "Rifle" or "Carbine"... it makes a big difference in the value. My bet (based on what you got it for) is that it is a sporterized Rifle. If that is the case, and it has a decent shootable bore... then they are worth about $200 - $250.

krag is an 1898, appears to be carbine,short barrel, has wood out to end of barrel,but could have been shortened as I don't know what orig length should measure. the way guys around here hoard them they think they are worth in excess of 400.00 dollars. NE. PA. Don't really matter as I intend to keep it, just curious. Thanks for the replies. grizz. 0 -
Whatever you do DON'T take it to a shooting range. There are evil people there who will offer you sums you can't resist.
I lost my first two Krags that way so I don't take my current one anymore.0
