Info on two Smith's

I have two very similar S&W revolvers (vintage 50's or 60's I think). One is 38 special and SN is K672452 while the second in .22 has the SN K 246511. Both have the adjustable rear sights and identical ramp fronts. I thought I remember my father calling the .38 a "Combat Masterpiece"; would that also be the designation for the .22? The .38 has rarely been fired and has only a very fine line on the blue surface on the cylinder; otherwise the blue is perfect and complete and the original wood grips are perfect as well. The .22 has a more distinct line on the cylinder and a tiny patch (1/8") on the left side of the barrel tip where there is blueing wear from a holster. I would like to have a idea of their value and salability.

  Your dad was correct in calling the .38 a Combat Masterpiece. That is what S & W called both the .38 and .22 in this configuration before they started numbering the models. When they started the numbers the .38 Combat Masterpiece became the model 15 and the .22 version became a model 17 which was available in 4", 6" & 8 3/8" barrels. I can't provide any valid price information but I would $350 or so for the .22 and a little less for the .38.

  .38 mfg. 1966 and the .22 should be 1955.Hershel is about right with the values.
