    Some of that is old history. When these first came out, they were running max loads. Also, the steels, the powders and the bullets have vastly improved. The last thing is they just didn't have adequate cleaning equipment (even a couple years ago, a .17 cleaning rod and jag were sometimes tough to come by) and a lot of "shot out" barrels were just really fouled.

    I had a Remington .17 rem and it was a real pleasure to shoot. I never saw ANY decrease in accuracy and I probably shot 1,000 rounds in it before I sold it (needed money for medical bills)

    I have a remington BDL 700.It has over 4000 rounds of hot hand loads thru it and will still shoot 3/4" at 100 yds.That is a factory stock gun except for trigger adjustment.I could get better groups with a liter load but I like to burn powder
