double rifle questions
I have the opportunity to buy a beautiful double rifle from a lady who doesn't know any more about it than I do. I am trying to find out what this is before I plop down $2500.00. Any help would be greatly appreciated. The receiver has silver inlay that says "IN SUHL" on the left side, and "F.IUNG SOHN" on the other. The receiver is shaped like a boar's head facing the rear with silver inlay tusks and eyes. the gun has exposed hammers. The top of the barrel has three leaf bunches that are gold and followed by the letters "TO". There is engraving all over the receiver and hammers. The lever to open the action is under the trigger guard. The trigger guard is engraved and has a rabbit on the bottom. The buttplate and a small inlaid shield on top of the stock don't show the coloring like the receiver does, but appear to be original. the barrels are brown and not the traditional blue. I don't know the calibre, but a 45acp round will fall all the through the rifled barrel. The wood and metal fit is perfect and overall condition is probably 95-98%. I tried to take pictures but my camera is a piece of junk and the're blurry. Thanks

Believe your "I", as the first letter of the last name should be "J".
There is a reference for a Friedrich Jung & Sohne as being a business located in Suhl as late as the 1930's. It was owned at that time by Hugo Jung.
From your description of the double rifle ( hammers and underlever ) and having Friedrich Jung's name on it, I would guess it dates to the last quarter of the 19th Century.
Did some more research on your rifle. Didn't find but one old metric sporting blackpowder rifle round with a bore diameter over .480. This could mean that it's chambered for a "PARADOX" cartridge of some type, rather then a conventional rifle cartridge.
