What Is An HK SP-89 Really Worth$?$?

As I have mentioned recently, I traded a NIB SP-89 for a
Ruger AC 556.
Value was not a concern, in actualy cash-as he wanted my SP-89 and I wanted his AC 556.
But now, a friend has decided to sell his NIB HK SP-89 and I told him to list it on GunBroker.
His response was, "If it's not going to bring more than I can sell it to one of the <wholesalers> who advertise to buy black guns, why should I waste the time and the expense"?
What should I tell him to "reasonably" expect in cash, so he doesn't put a "ridiculous" reserve on it and get no bids.
You see them advertised at all different prices, but what will one that is absolutely NIB w/papers "Bring"?

  F.J Vollmer of Plainfield, IL is one of the major players in the assault weapons and machinegun side of the firearms business. Right now Vollmer is paying $2800 for NIB HK SP-89's. Most that I see advertised for sale seem to be in the $3000- $3500 range, but I have no idea how many are actually sold at these prices. Like nearly every other firearm that is banned or heavily restricted from new production or importation, all prices on these tend to be retail (even dealer to dealer) since sellers can't just reorder once they move an in stock unit to the customer; there are no new sources other than guns already in this country. There is an interest in the SP-89 for use by owners of registered sears as a slightly cheaper host gun for full auto conversions. The SP-89 sells for a bit less than an HK-94 and if you want to go the PDW route with your conversion rather than an MP-5, the SP-89 is a great choice.
