I have a 3-9X40 VX-II and am very happy with it. I don't pretend to be an expert on the rifleman series, but I have used Buschnell, Simmons, and Tasco. Even an entry level Leupold seems to be the safe bet. I have seen the rifleman series at Walmart for a good price, same place I got my VX-II. 0 -
It should be well enough made, it's short comings will be in the lens coatings. It will not be as bright as the more spendy models.

I just looked at one of these scope. The adjustments on the box said 1/2 inch increaments. If this is correct, I don't really care for that. You might want to check into that. 0 -
The VX 1's have 1/2 minute adjustments as well, so don't worry about it, the Vari-X II's had the same 1/2" adjustments until it's discontinuance. It' a Leupold--Don't worry about!! 0
