If the ban lifts on 13 September, 2004 there will no longer be any problems with folding stocks on a Federal level for domestic production firearms, although foreign makes will remain restricted due to a seperate ban dating from 1989. If lifted there should be no difficullties in purchasing an M4 carbine, but since the retratable stocks on AR's reduce the OAL by only about 3" they are hardly the most useful accessory. The standard A2 fixed stock is much more comfortable and the retractable stock is really only good for shooters wearing tactical vests or body armor so as to adjust the length of pull.

    3" inches isn't much.
I think I will go with this one.
