Can anyone tell me about these pistols?
I saw one in a shop a few weeks ago, has beavertail grip,extended levers, the gun is used but is tight.

Actually, I know the pistol well! A good friend formerly lived in the L.A. area, and bought five of them when they were on the market; before Federal Ordnance followed the dodo bird into extinction. Over the years he has traded away two of them, and until recently had three remaining, but recently disposed of one more and is down to his last two! Says that he wishes he would have bought a hundred of them, as he doubled his money on the original purchase price. I had to gunsmith the three he still had to make them fuctional/reliable. All required the feed ramp and throat to be polished, and all required this or that other small operation (different on each specimen). As near as I was able to determine they were made by Itajuba in Brazil. These folks made the 1911 for the Brazilian Military, and I believe they currently are involved in the manufacture of the 1911 sold under the Springfield Armory name. All in all, the guns were well made, but just required some fine tuning to be reliable shooters. My friend's pistols do not have a beavertail grip safety, and the slide release and safety levers are only a little larger than those you would find on a stock pistol; so the parts you observed present on the specimen you are looking at may be replacement parts, in which case the other bugs may have been worked out also. If the price falls within your budget it's probably worth picking up as a shooter. 0 -

Too much, by $100. I too, am very familiar with Fed-Ord. See if you can get the shop to put your money on something else. 0 -
I agree with Doug... I just paid $250 for one with 3 magazines and a holster... Very nice pistol, have had no reliabability troubles with it... Very consistant... Anyway, I would agree that $350 is $100 too much. 0
