scope quality
Can someone give me a rough comparison of scope quality between the Burris fullfield, and the Sightron? I am looking for a pretty good quality scope for under $200. As always thanks for your replies

The Nikon Monarch line is very good and is Leupold VX3 quality at the VX2 price. The Monarch Gold series beat out everything in a comparison test I read but it is very pricey.
Burris signature series is also great but spendy.
You can not say much bad about Leupold except they are like the Harleys of scopes. They hold their price because they are the popular model and are hard to get good deals on.
The best Busnell & Simmons will not be a good as the Best Nikon, Burris or Leupold.
The Zeiss Conquest series would be the best for the money. After that I would go Nikon.

I am strictly a leupold man myself.
i think it is hard to beat the quality, and I have had troubles with many other brands.0 -
I am strickly a Bushnell guy and the elite 4200 are brighter than any leupold made. I also like the optics on the nikon I have been very impressed with the ones I have looked through.

I rank them thus: Burris, Leupold, Nikon. That is the Nikon Monarch which is a fine scope for the price. Nikon Monarch Gold I have no experience with. I should say that I rank them in that order, but not much seperates the three.

Have mostly Leupolds, Burris and one Nikon Monarch - the Nikon is equal to all of them.

unless you are looking at the leupold LR or the MK IV,...I have to give the nod to the burris as well (as HeDog stated). Every bit as clear and bright,..for less money and the same warranty. The leupy would be next then the nikon,....but the nikon is gaining ground.
why chase the game when the bullet can get em from here?....

Chuck, that must have been awhile ago because now Nikon is supposed to be very good with the warrenty.
HeDog, the Monarch Gold is a 30mm tube with a better quality glass and about twice the price ($800 Range). I think it was Field and Stream that ranked it number one. I would look for a used Schmidt & Bender for that kind of money instead. I probably agree that the Burris signature would be better quality but it would also cost more for even quality.
I have a Swarovski 3-12x50 and the boy has a Monarch 4-10x50. Very hard to tell them apart at dusk. Very impressed with it.

From an experienced view point:
DURBALITY puts Nikon behind Burris Signature, Leupold VXIII, and Bushnell Elite 4200.
CONSTRUCTION internal: Burris, Bushnell 4200, the Leupold VXIII.
WARRANTY processing/problems: The same. Have just rec'd a new replacement Nikon Monarch for a customer that took two hunts to Canada for bear, and caribou. Fogged up once, sent back, 'repaired', fogged up again...while on the hunts. Took months to get 'repaired', and then a letter from me to the powers that are, to get a new one.
Point of manufacturer/compoments:
Burris = 100 % USA.
Leupold = some components out sourced overseas. Assembled in USA.
Elite 4200 = similar to Leupold, some or most assembly done in Japan.
Nikon = all overseas components. Assembly was in the Phillipines, now Thailand.
All four are very good, but there are differences.

Hands down Leupold has the best warranty. They do have problems too but they settle it fast and hassle free. That is why they run more for an equal quality scope.
I have used a Nikon monarch on a .338 win mag and it has held up great. If I had to do it over though I would not reccommend it for a high recoil rifle. I would not use it at all on a ultra mag or anything bigger than a 7mm just to avoid a possable problem.
The Monarch I have on my boys .243 is great. I went out last night and compared it to my Swarovski PV under the full moon, and it took a while to really notice the difference. The Swarovski was slightly clearer. I was able to see my horse at 200 yards easily with both but I got a finer image with my Swarovski after adjusting the focus.
One other thing about the monarch is you see out of it instantly.
