Colt 1911 magazines

What are the 1911 Colt magazines with the lanyard loop worth?
Does anyone know the history behind them? I had heard that some General had them pit on because his troops kept loosing them.

    I have 2 older magazines for my Colt 19ll (1918) that I would like identified and dated if possible.
    The first has a C-S mark on the underside of the base plate.
    The second has an L mark on the top side of the base plate.

    There are about 6 variations, so I'd need to see photos to know what you have. However, most are worth in the $50-100 range, in excellent condition.

    I wouldn't believe the story about the general, although some generals were involved in the development of the specifications for the M1911. Lanyard loops on pistols probably can be dated to horse mounted cavalry (the M1911 pistol also had a lanyard loop), and maybe that reasoning was extended to magazines. All Colt magazines had lanyard loops until 1915.

    Colt made 7 different variations of the 1911 magazines with the lanyard loop. I agree with Neal on the values of these magazines. Be aware that there are more counterfeit 1911 mags with the loop than Colt factory ones. These counterfeit ones are junk and not worth anything. There are also counterfeit series 70 and 80 magazines produced with markings like Colt's. They are also junk. Please be aware that most of these are sold by dealers as Colt factory magazines.

    This is purely a thought so take it accordingly...

    I wonder if they ever connected the lanyards together between the pistol and the magazines so the two wouldn't be separated.

    These magazines I have were in an estate, and still loaded with FA 2-14 dated cartridges. 2 of the magazines had 7 rounds in them, and one had 6. Where can I e-mail a photo to find out which one of the 6 or 7 variations I have, or doesn't it matter?
