mini 14 .223 accuracy???
i've never had one of these that shot decently- such a neat
little gun- they all functioned perfectly but the groups seem to run
4-5" at 100 yds. ammo selection doesn't seem to matter. and nobody
seems to offer the accessories to make them shoot better?????

I had one & quickly traded up to another AR. You may want to do a search on here, one of our California members, Silverbox, has had some real luck with his Mini 14 by changing a few minor parts.

Their are many company's who do custom work and guarantee MOA accuracy.Do a search and it should turn up many places who do the work or you can do alot of it yourself.I have 3 Mini-14's and am very happy with their accuracy. But they have had some modifications.
Good Luck!!

Theres a company and for the life of me I can't think of their name off the top of my head who sells a carbon fiber sleeve that slips over the barrel. It is supposed to stiffen the barrel and dissapate heat to improve accuracy. They claim under 2 inch groups at 100 yds. with the sleeve and theres a little bit of fitting to make it just right.

I almost forgot about that thread. My Mini-14 seems to be regressing these days with about 5k rounds thru it and the bedding getting a tiny bit sloppy. It probably is back up to about 3" groups @100 yards with Wolf. It also has a drift issue.. The groups will move downwards and open up a bit as the barrel heats. Probably 4" of drift at 100 yards downwards and the groups open to maybe 4" @ 100 yards. The stock barrel heats up fast. Takes maybe 20-30 rounds and I'm drifted down and opened up on the group sizes. I have it sighted in to hit about 2" high at 100 yards. As it drifts I hit about 2" low when its toasty hot. Can't say all Mini's are like this, its just how mine shoots right now.0 -
"4-5" at 100 yds" That's about all you'll get with a stock Mini-14.
A nice little rifle, but probably not worth pouring a lot of money into. JMHO.

It's almost a given that Rugers get custmomized. Mini 14s, Mark IIs and 10/22s are often little more than the chassis for a shooter's dream gun. Nothing wrong with that.

Get some felpro antisieze and put a very small (it spreads like crazy) amount around the barrel where the gas block attaches. And tighten all four screws on the gas block like you would on a car tire, caddy corner and with the same torque on each one.
Believe it or not, it really helps.0 -
Sorry to hear that Silver. Did you ever get a M1A?

Yeup the MA9226CA; Standard, loaded, black fiber stock and blued carbon barrel. http://www.springfield-armory.com/prod-rifles-loaded.shtml Its awesome. Been shooting Aussie .308 surplus thru it with the open sights.. 2" or less @ 100 everytime.. I'm seriously considering just leaving it with the open sights. I can hit the 8" disk on the 300 yard line like 2 of 3 shots with OPEN sights..
Its kinda why I quit messing with my Mini-14 so much. You have to realize that I shoot steel case wolf thru my Mini-14 the ammo is inherantly inaccurate. If I shot handloads thru it the group sizes would probably be 1/3 to 1/2 the size I get with steel cased Wolf. Good loads and I'm sure I can get sub 2" groups with my Mini-14 as it sits right now.0
