It seems to be happening during the loading.

    Thanks

I had a s&w 1000 that did the same thing, the key word was "had" took mine to gunsmith, he told me the gas system was worn out and he inlarged the gas ports and said only shoot mag loads in it. About 3 months later I traded it in on a gold fusion ( at a differnt shop). He also said parts are real hard to find for that gun.

THE S&W 1000 HAS A RUBBER PISTON SHOCK ABSORBER UNDER THE PISTON. OIL AND SOLVENT MELTS THEM INTO A BLACK GOO OVER TIME. IT WILL GUM UP THE THE WHOLE RECOIL SYSTEM AND MAG. TUBE. ONCE IT'S GONE AND YOU CONTINUE TO SHOOT, IT WILL TRASH THE PISTON AND CAUSE IT TO HANG UP. MAG. FOLLOWER WILL HANG UP JUST ENOUGH FOR THE NEXT SHELL TO JAM. ANOTHER CAUSE COULD BE THE PRESSURE COMPENSATOR VALVE THAT SITS ON TOP OF THE PISTON. WHEN THEY START TO GO BAD, JAMS START TO HAPPEN.E-GUNPARTS.COM STOCKS MOST OF THE PARTS FOR THE 1000.E-MAIL ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN A COPY OF THE OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE MANUAL.

I'VE HAD SEVERAL OF THESE IN THE SHOP IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, ALL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PISTON SHOCK ABSORBER TURNS TO BLACK GOO. GUN PARTS HAS THESE AS WELL AS A GOOD PARTS BREAK DOWN (PT.# 38, ITEM # 366590).

the guys above fielded it pretty good. start with the o ring suggestion and go from there. with the o ring melted to the bolt carrier and associated parts, its not closing properly. if its still doing it afterwards, post again and i'll talk you threw it.
