Well, in my quest to find a used 444 Marlin in the local shops in the area last week, I bought a Norinco 1911a-1. I feel that I got it for a fair price. The tag said $320. The owner of the shop went down to $250 out the door. I just couldn't pass it up! Now on to my question...Since I am not very familiar with 1911's, what brand of magazines will work best in the Norinco? The gun only came with one and I'd like to have at least two more. Oh, by the way, I took the gun out this weekend and it was flawless!!! Any other suggestions that I might want to hear to spruce this gun up?

First let me congratulate you on your new Norinco. Good news!!!!! ALL parts are completely interchangeable with the 1911 and clones. The Colt 1911 (and A1) is probably the most customized pistol in the world and the parts that are available are staggering. Virtually limited only by imagination and budget.

Personal choice on mags is either the Wilson or Baer models. McCormick, Pachmayer, and MecGar are also quite good.

My Norinco has had a little bit of trigger work done on it, and I've installed a full length guide rod and an extended slide release (both purchased thru Cheaper Than Dirt a few years ago). It shoots well and functions smoothly. My only problem has been with the spring under the grip safety. It stopped pushing the grip safety back out when released. I bought a book on 1911's, disassembled that portion of the gun, (sliced the crap out of my hand), rebent the leaf on the spring and reassembled the gun. It's functioned flawlessly ever since.
You've purchased a good 1911. It doesn't look as pretty and refined as some of the others, but it functions just as well and will save you a bunch of money on the 'initial purchase'. I REALLY enjoy mine!
As the other gentleman said, any 1911 mag will fit, and parts are interchangable. You're gonna love it! Have fun....Be safe.
