how are these scopes? anybody have any experiences good or bad? As always thanks for your replies.

I was surprised to learn today that I could actually afford one of these. They are priced at about half of where I thought Leupolds started. Does anyone use one? I'm looking at the 4-12 x 40mm model. What is a reasonable max usable range for that x12 setting (target shooting).

Leupold makes great scopes. But, like most companys, they make lower end ones for consumers that dont want to pay alot. Ive learned the hard way. "you get what you pay for". Unless youre going to just stick it on 22lr, spend a little more and get something with a little more quality. I would suggest the VariX III. Great scope for the money.

I will second what Slave2 says. In the long run you will be better served by saving a little longer. Your rifle is really no better than your scope, so that is not the place to scrimp. Take a look at Burris as well as the Vari-X III. for low prices and very good service, check www.bearbasin.com
