CZ MODEL 1924 9mm BROWNING SHORT

5. one piece wrap around walnut grips
6. external hammer, nearly concealed in the slide (just enough spur protrudes to manualy cock the gun, sindle action style)
7. 5 diagonal slide retracting grooves cut into both sides of the slide (rear)
8. 8 round single stack detachable box magazine with finger rest at bottom/front
9. lanyard ring built into the magazine release at the bottom/rear of the mag well.
10. mauser nickl / 1910 / 1914 style thumb lever / button saftey on left of frame
11. adjustable V-notch rear sight / half round blade front
12. sliding takedown lever on left of frame
13. OAL 6.1 inches / OAH 4.65 inches / wieght(unloaded) 1.4lbs
14. TOP OF SLIDE ON SIGHT PLAIN RIDGE: "CESKA ZBROJOVKA A.S. VPRAZE 49188" "stlyized czech lion"
15. LEFT OF FRAME (BELOW RETRACTING GROOVES ON SLIDE): "CZ26"
16. LEFT OF FRAME: "CZ 49188"
17. RIGHT OF FRAME: "CZ J(czech lion)27"

i am at a loss here. i have made some progress, but am rather confused. according to STANDARD CATALOUGE OF FIREARMS "a limited number of pistols have been noted marked "CZ 1925" and "CZ 1926 or CZ26". there are various minor design changes on each model and it is conjectured that they were limited prototypes that were manufactured on the road to production of the less complicated, blowback operated C7 1927 pistol. W.B. WHITE states that the protoype runs were often less then 100 pieces, and that the are rarely encountered. both books show pictures of these markings, and this gun is marked in an identical fashion.
i think that it was made in 1927 in the STRAKONICE factory. it is not stamped with any military proofs or acceptance stamps. production in total for the 1924 was less then 190,000.
the gun is in NRA VERY GOOD ++, functions correctly, but has been proffesionaly refinished at some point. there are indications of rust, and minor surface pitting before it was reblued. i would call it a 85% ++ gun.
what is it worth??? how many were made??? what does "prototype status" do to the value??? is it of intrest to collectors??? how rare is it??? any scources for CZ history and info??? any comments or suggestions???

when i purchased the piece (a lot of 7 pistols for $100.00) i thought it was a model 1927. i new almost nothing about pre-war CZ pistols. my research gave me a lot of information, and made me somewhat happy. please, ANYONE, chime in on this gun. i have pushed the envelope with my own rescources, and would appreciate input on the gun from anyone. please post something here on the forum, or email me at the shop at waltsgun@aol.com.
