Colt Double Eagle .45 1st run vs. Mark II

I picked up a .45 Series 90, apparently first run. (5" barrel)
My Colt .40 S&W Series 90 Mark II seems heavier (4" barrel)

Any comments on my perceptions?

  If they were the same length the .40 should be heavier.Smaller bore has more metal.

  It is a Combat Commander 40 S&W w/ a 4" barrel, but I always thought it was full size until I measured the barrel. I'm still getting acquainted with firearms.
  
  So the 40S&W with a shorter barrel is heavier than a comparable .45 w/5" barrel.
  
  I get a good deal of enjoyment after taking a firearm apart and sucessfully reassembling it after cleaning.
  
  Although this might be similar to the novelty of "cutting the grass for the first time",
  I will, I hope, always take pleasure in the great mechanical inventions of our time.
