  Yep....and besides that, all of the cartridge dimensions are different.

  Short story, the 303Brit (7.7x56R) is a (former) military round, that uses a .312 Diameter bullet, while the 303Sav is a obsolete hunting round that uses a .308 bullet. They are NOT interchangable.

  Pick up a copy of P.O. Ackley's book " Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders, Volume I". It is full of valueable information. You can find it at most of the major sporting goods stores like Gander Mountain or Cabella's.

  I'll tell you one thing about the 303 Savage cartrige, you don't want to buy a bunch of it. I friend in NE asked me to find her some 2 years ago just before deer season. I didn't know she even hunted. Difficult to find and expensive. It was so bad that I bought her a new Savage last year. BTW, she was using an original model 1895.

  Expensive is right. Loaded rounds are currently $35 and up when you can find them and whats left of a limited run of new brass is $20-$25/20. actually I think the savage is about 100 or so FPS slower than the 30-30. recommended loading data is to reduce 30-30 data by 10%. My father has a model 99 in 303 Savage which he has retired. I'm collecting brass and information in hopes of reviving this old gun one day.
