700 DM

How much differance is there between the standard 700 BDL action, and the 700 DM. What parts (besides the stock and magazine) would be needed to switch a BDL to a DM.

  I have a Remington 700 DM with a synthetic stock (probably one of the older poorer ones). I changed the stock out for a Bell and Carlson Medallist. The issue now is that it will not feed from the magazine. I believe the problem is that the B&C is slightly thicker (top to bottom) and puts the DM too far from the bolt. How difficult is the process of inletting the trigger guard assembly to the correct depth? I either need a book to help me or a stock man somewhere near S.E. Wyo.

  As far as I know you've got it... However, I wouldn't recommend one. I've got one in .300 win. My biggest complaint is that you can't load a single round to the magazine from the top, it has to be removed to effectively load it. They are noisy to change out too, deer seem to hear that sound for a long way. With 3 rounds (magnum calibers) in the mag (4 rounds in non-mag cartridges) it just isn't worth the hassle. The mags are too big and bulky to carry an extra. I'd recommend just getting an Uncle Mike's elastic shell holder and sliding it over the stock. If you do this, one neat trick I learned is to punch a hole in the bottom of the elastic shell holder and slide it over your sling stud then put your sling on. Now the shell holder will stay in place...

  ONE OTHER NICE THING ABOUT THE SHELL HOLDER.. IF YOU HAVE THE RIFLE YOU'VE ALSO GOT THE AMMO.

  Cool, I'm glad you guys liked the shell holder idea... One other cool note about it, the rifle one works great with .410 shells. I use it on my savage .22/.410, now if I can only find an elastic .22 holder. [;)][:D]

  Thanks bambihunter, I have used the elastic shellholder with the hole for the sling stud, I thought I invented that(yea whatever). I wasn't really thinking about the conversion, but there is a really nice 700 stock for sale on GB cheap, but it's for a DM.
