Can you use 2 3/4 or 3" barrels on a 870 3 1/2" mag.?

  Hello, no. The barrel has to be at least about 12.5 inches or the mag. ring won't go over the mag. tube. But you would need a special license for that, being less than 18 inches and all.

  Hello, yes, you can use any 12 gauge 870 barrel on any 12 gauge receiver *EXCEPT* for the Special Field model. That one has a shorter mag. tube and will not work.
