.17 HMR Heavy or Sporter Barrel
I am waffling on a new Savage hummer. I expect to be shooting squirrels and foxes with a little target shooting thrown in. I have read the arguments about a Bull barrel taking longer to heat up. Won't they take longer to cool down as well? How hot can a little .17 get?
Is the heavy barrel worth the extrta $70? (Where I live)
Decisions, decisions

Definetly go for the heavy barrel. Much more accurate, balance is better. The .17's really do heat up much faster and you will see a difference big time in the accurracy. If you are only plugging a squirrel or varmint occasionally then heat up doesnt factor in. There shouldnt be $70 difference in price either between the two in Savage line. 0
