Black Powder Deal
Has anybody been in their local Walmart Lately..50Cal; percussion $56.00 greatprice if ya got a couple of kids ya want to introduce to black powder and don,t have mucho dinero not a bad deal or is it

If I understand you correctly: Walmart sells a 50 caliber muzzleloading rifle for $56 and you want to know if it is a good deal.
I have not seen any muzzleloading rifles at my Walmart but it is not one of the big stores.
Second, my experience with muzzleloaders, and all guns for that matter, is you get what you pay for. At $56 I would venture to say your kids won't get much of an introduction to anything.

The one that WalMarts is selling for $56 dollars is a CVA Bobcat. As to how good it is my ol lady has one of the first CVA Bobcats that they made, when they put painted wood as a stock instead of plastic, and it has taken several deer at 100+ yards! Several of our kids use them on our 4-H shooting sports team, one took 3rd place in the state this year as well as 1st place last year with one of those $56 WalMarts CVAs, and our BP rifle team took 3rd place over all in the state this year with 3 out of 4 shooters useing those $56 dollar guns! Now as to them NOT being a good deal, HOGWASH! It is not the gun that makes the shooter but rather the shooter that makes the shot! If you want a short, handy little carbine that is deadly accurate and do not have a fortune to spend then buy the gun. You will not regret it. Your kids will get a gun that will give them a really good head start into the world of BP shooting. I have BP rifles that cost over 30 times the price of that CVA that at 100 yards will not shoot any better. Just my opinion but I have been shooting, building, and competing with BP guns for 20+ years!
If you do buy one remember you do not have to load a 50 caliber real heavy to kill deer. We load the CVA Bobcat with 50 grains of FFF for deer hunting and 20 to 30 grains for target practice at 25 yards. The child in our 4-H sports team that took 3rd this year and 1st last only loads 18 grains of pyrodex at 25 yards!

Thank you jjmitchell60 and Powdersmoke,I have a .50 staghorn,and inserts madeup to fit old stevens/savage 12ga not only a pain but a little touchy with Fla FWC..........Staghorn good rifle killed lota hog and deer. I can't beat the price, bought two today,(bobcats)and some accesories out the door with 2 rifles ,powder, grease,and bullets for under$150.But a little hooked on pyrodox.Ilike it simple

Frank-- Be sure to keep us posted on how they perform. A reasonable expectation of accuracy is being able to keep all rounds in an area the size of a baseball at 50 yards (benchrest).

Rafter-s,I went out today put them rifles too the test! I have a Lohman sight Vise weighted down with 1/2 in plate on bottom,misty rain all morning. kinda crappy here in So FLA . almost worst case senerio .Well the Rifles preform excellent.Nice tight groups on bench. tight groups free standing I was impressed for the price ....shot between 50-65 yards thats the max we can hunt in the palmattos,all shots in Kill zone! I have Templates cut out of scrap plywood size of medium hog and So FLA deer. Not so shabby 4 less than 150bucks.......
