Beretta cougar

just bought a beretta cougar 8000 9mm. 400.00 is what i paid for it. Just wondering what poeple thought of that gun and if i got a good deal

  Just bought a new Beretta mod.8000 9mm. Im having a couple of issues with it. It doesnt seem to feed worth a crap. I tryed Win +P+ ranger ammo. Jammed almost everytime. Tryed Win. target ammo. Jammed every once in a while. The target ammo didnt have enough power to push the slide back far enough on the last shot to keep the slide open. Anybody had the same problems??? Thanks

  Does it require cleaning before the first use? Did you strip it and/or have difficulties reassembling?

  Check the chamber!
  It is possible that some of the packing lube hardened in the chamber
  and formed a "varnish" which binds the empty case.
  This can cause ejection problems, which in turn cause a domino effect of problems of feeding.
  A good solvent and brass brush, may be the answer.
  And again, it may not.

  You're not the first I've heard of with problems with that particular pistol, I've read an article in the Gun Tests publishing in which the Beretta Cougar line had difficulty feeding, not to mention that a few friends of mine who own the same model complain of the exact same problem. Did you do any research before you purchased that pistol?
  
  I'm pretty sure it's a minor problem...try taking it to your local gunsmith, maybe he can figure it out. Good Luck[:)]

  Thanks for your replys. It has been completely cleaned. Everything seems to work completely smooth. Still jambs up. I guess I'll have a gunsmith look at it. Why doesnt the manufacturer test and solve these problems before production? The last three pistols I have bought have had some form of trauma. The only pistol I have bought that worked flawlessly out of the box has been a Springfield 45. Thanks again.

  Are you using a Beretta Factory magazine or an after-market one? Have you tried different magazines and had the same problem? Have you tried ammo brands other than Winchester? Are you "limp-wristing" when shooting?
  
  If it is a new gun and not working, you can probably send it back to the factory for warranty repair rather than pay a gunsmith to look at it.

  Competentone said exactly what was on my mind......"limp wristing"....
  If you have feeding problems with more than one pistol, "limp wristing" might be your problem. Try having a buddy or two test fire it so you can see if he has the same problem. Do this before you take it to the smith.

  Just a thought, but some guns have to be broken in. I remember a few 1911's I had, and even one of my AR-15's had alot of problems when I first started shooting them, but after a couple hundred rounds, never another malfunction. I think it has something to do with production tolerances and machining toolmarks that have to be worn smooth by use.

  Well, she,s working perfect now. I had to grind down and polish bottom edge of barrel. Hollow points were catching on little lip. After running about 150 rounds through it, I have had no more problems. Thanks for your help.
