    i am seeking information on a break open, single shot 12 gauge. it says "victor plain" "american gun co. new york" on its right side and "genuine armory steel" on the top of the barrel. any knowledge anyone could provide would be much appreciated. thankyou!

    I believe that you have an Iver Johnson pistol which is pretty much identical to the older Johnson, Bye, and Co. Defender design from the mid 1870's. I think the name Defender 89 was added in 1889, a few years after Iver Johnson bought out his partner Mr. Bye, and then continued on with production of this pistol under his own brand name.
