What era would this firearm be in? What would its approx. value be? It also says markas registradas on one side. thanks

  I have a S&W Model 19-4 357 Mag with a 6" barrel. Can I shoot 38spl ammo in it without damaging the gun. Thanks.

  you certainly can shoot 38 special in a 357

  ".38 special" is a nominal caliber, evolved from earlier .38 caliber handguns used in the black powder era. In fact, the measured bore of a .38 special gun should be .357".
  
  The .357 magnum cartridge was developed for use in a ".38 caliber" barrel, but with a larger chamber that would prevent anyone from firing it in any earlier .38 gun. I guess that they could have named it ".38 super duper special", but ".357 magnum" gave us a return to more meaningful descriptions.
  
  The only thing you should be concerned about is cleaning the gun after firing .38 specials. If they are fired extensively, and/or corrosion is allowed to build up in the cylinders, it may develop rings in the cylinder that would make it difficult to insert .357 magnum rounds.
