Barsto Barrels, Worth it?

I was thinking about purchasing a Barsto barrel for a Colt Mark IV and or a Sig 229 (40 S&W). The purpose is to increase accuracy and maybe do a little fun competition. The price runs around $200 for "semi-drop ins" and a little more for the fitted versions. I was thinking about the semi-drop in barrels (although I am uncertain what they mean by semi-drop in, does it drop in or not?). Has anyone ever used this product and did you believe it was worth it?

  I have a 38 super Barsto barrel in a springfield 1911a1 and a 45acp Barsto barrel in a Colt series 70. Both had to be fitted. Their accuracy is great. Well worth the money. I believe their barrels to be top of the line.

  I have to agree with hunter on both counts. Bar-Sto barrels ranks very high on quality and service in the firearms community.
  
  That being said, I do have to disagree with their assertion (but agree with hunter) that some of the barrels (semi-drop in) require no fitting or some, very little. There are so many brands of slides and frames that it is virtually impossible to have a drop in barrel capable of, as they suggest, high accuracy. Usually the hood, feet, link and lugs require final fitting for accuracy to be there. I have installed several Bar-Sto's and all needed to be fitted in some way. In all fairness, though, every barrel that I have installed required fitting. It's the care in fitting of all of the aftermarket parts that leads to enhanced accuracy. Like a great man once said, garbage in, garbage out.

  Barsto Marine Cut on my Series 70 Gold Cup required fitting. Result was dramatically increased accuracy. Worth the price. Beach

  I fitted one to my Browning Hi Power - over 30 years ago. I have put the original barrel back in occaisionally. The Barstow was worth the money and effort.

  Thanks for the advice. That should help. I reviewed their add (they didn't respond to my e-mail from over a week ago) and they offer semi-drop in and fitted barrels. Each offers an increase in accuracy over stock with the fitted the best. Sounds like a winner!

  Nononsense: I really appreciate your reply. My Sig (229) is the easiest pistol I have ever stripped and put back together. My impression from Barsto was that their barrel would drop in like the Sig barrel. I guess if one is going to have it fitted he had better have a gunsmith he knows something about do it. It may be a while anyway. Here in Missouri license to carry recently became law. The State wants $100 for the license and so far the cheapest course I have found is also $100...the price of a Barsto barrel.

  Beachmaster 73: Did they do the work on the Colt? I also have an old
  Colt, Mark IV series 70 that has never had anything done to it and man it shoots great. The Barsto would make it a super pistol.

  Notpars...No I had a competitive pistol gunsmith of some renown do a major fitting on the pistol. I was pleased with his work. Beach
